Highlights | World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 | Day 8




Day 8 of the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships saw another world record fall as Dalilah Muhammad set a new fastest time in the women’s 400m hurdles. The American raced to victory in 52.16s, ahead of compatriot Sydney McLaughlin, who ran the third-fastest time in history to claim silver, with Jamaican Rushell Clayton taking bronze.

In the men’s high jump, Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim the delighted the packed Khalifa International Stadium by soaring to victory, clearing a world-leading 2.37m for the title. Mikhail Akimenko and Ilya Ivanyuk both cleared 2.35m for silver and bronze respectively.

The men’s 3000m steeplechase final produced possibly the best finish of the championships thus far, as Conseslus Kipruto came back to beat Lamecha Girma by one one-hundredth of a second. Morocco’a Soufiane El Bakkali took bronze.

In the men’s 400m, there was delight for Steven Gardiner of The Bahamas who won gold with a new national record of 43.48s. Colombian Anthony Jose Zambrano produced a fantastic run to take silver in a new area record of 44.15s, with American Fred Kerley claiming bronze.

It was a Cuban 1-2 in the women’s discus as Yaime Perez and Denia Caballero finished ahead of the field. Perez threw the winning mark of 69.17m, ahead of Caballero’s 68.44 in silver. Reigning champion Sandra Perkovic took bronze 66.72 throw.
