Propelled by a perfectly-timed homestretch kick, Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda pulled off an upset victory in the 800m, one of the biggest surprises of the World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.
Uganda never had a World Championships finalist in the women’s 800m. Now they have had two and Nakaayi was the lesser-known of the pair is the world champion, defeating pre-event favourite Ajee Wilson.
