Buckeyes Race at Big Ten Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by an All-Big Ten performance by freshman Addie Engel, the Ohio State cross country teams competed in the 2021 Big Ten Championships Friday at the Blue and White Golf Courses in University Park, Pa. The women’s race was a 6K, with the men running 5.2 miles.

Engel continued her outstanding season, notching a fourth-place finish to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors. Ohio State has had an all-conference performer each of the last three championships, with Engel joining Abby Nichols (5th/2019) and Allie Guagenti (5th/2020). Engel is the seventh Buckeye to earn first team all-conference laurels.

Engel finished the 2021 B1G race in a time of 20:44.8, less than five seconds back of third place. She has been in the Top 16 in all five of her races this year.

Hannah Moulton finished 26th overall and Akemi Von Scherr, Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn rounded out the Buckeyes’ scorers. Suzanne Stein, Ellie Weber, Emma Bucher and Sophia Spencer also ran in the championship meet. The women finished eighth as a team.

Zubin Jha led the men, as he placed 29th with a personal best time of 25:41.9 on the course, improving by nearly 31 seconds. Ivan Slyepkan, Gionvani Copploe, Kevin Agnew and Nick Regas joined Jha as point scorers, with Slyepkan, Copploe and Regas all running their career bests for 5.2 miles. Mikey Zedan, Jake Wickert, John Cuozzo and Kaleb Martin also represented the Buckeyes in the championship race. As a team, the Buckeye men finished 10th.

“Addie had a great meet and to finish fourth in this conference is a huge accomplishment, especially considering how young she is. She joins an exclusive club of women who have been First Team All-Big Ten for us.

“The Big Ten Championship in cross country will never be easy. We feel like our women are much better than the results showed and look forward to having another chance to prove that in two weeks.

“On the men’s side both Zubin and Ivan had solid races for us. We need to continue to put a few pieces together in order to perform to our ability at the NCAA regional championship.”
