COLUMBUS, Ohio – Buckeye freshman Addie Engel placed third to lead the Ohio State cross country teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Friday at Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind. The women’s race was a 6K, with the men running a 10K.
With her third-place finish, Engel earned a spot at the NCAA Championships, which will be held Nov. 20 in Tallahassee, Fla. She ran a personal-best time of 19:59.6 in her first NCAA regional, less than four seconds back of first place. She has been in the Top 16 in all six of her races this year and in the Top 4 four times.
Engel was fourth at the Big Ten Championships to earn First Team All-B1G accolades. She adds All-Great Lakes Region honors to her resume for placing in the Top 25 in the regional field of 216.
As a team, the Buckeye women finished sixth. Hannah Moulton was second for Ohio State, running a career best 20:38.3 to place 31st, nearly 12 seconds faster than her previous mark. Andrea Kuhn (47th), Akemi Von Scherr (48th) and Daniella Santos (52nd) finished close together to round out the Buckeye scorers, with Kuhn running her career best. Ellie Weber and Suzanne Stein also raced in the regional for Ohio State, with Weber beating her previous best by 14 seconds.
For the fourth meet in a row Zubin Jha was first for the Buckeye men, finishing just ahead of Kevin Agnew in 68th and 69th place, respectively. Jake Wickert (86th), Mikey Zedan (88th) and Giovanni Copploe (91st) were the other Buckeye scorers, crossing the line in a five-second span. Ivan Slyepkan and John Cuozzo also ran in the regional for the Buckeyes, who placed 12th as a team.

“We race in the toughest region in the country and for Addie to be third is an incredible accomplishment. We return four of our top five so are excited about the future.
“The men outperformed their rank today and like the women are a young team. We were happy with their composure and are excited to build the momentum on the track.”
