Gators Welcome Adrian Melendez as Director of Operations – Track & Field/Cross Country


Melendez joins the Gators after spending 17 years at the University of Illinois

 


GAINESVILLE, Fla. –  The Gators announced Monday that Adrian Melendez joined the University Athletic Association staff as the director of operations for the track & field and cross country programs.

Melendez joined the Gators after spending more than 12 years at the University of Illinois, where he most recently served as the assistant athletic director of operations for soccer, track & field and cross country from 2017-21.

Melendez first joined the Fighting Illini in 2005. During his time at Illinois he also served as the head athletic trainer for football (2005-07) and assistant athletic director of operations for football (2007-12).

Additionally, he worked as the tenant service manager for Fox Development Corporation from 2016-17 and the I Hotel and Conference Center as director and chief operations officer (2012-16). 

A native of El Paso, Texas, he graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in secondary education and received his masters in recreational studies from the University of Florida.

This is Melendez’s second stretch with the Gators after previously serving as an athletic trainer with track and field from 1996-98 and as the head athletic trainer for football from 1998-04.
