Butler Bags Another National Title for Hokies

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (NCAA.com) — Virginia Tech’s Lindsey Butler won the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:01.37 Saturday night at the 2022 NCAA Division Indoor Track and Field Championships, setting a Birmingham CrossPlex facility record. Butler took the lead during the final lap after Kennesaw State’s Sarah Hendrick’s blistering pace fell off.

Butler followed up teammate Rachel Baxter’s pole vault gold medal on Friday to give Virginia Tech two NCAA Indoor titles this season. On the men’s side, Florida State’s Trey Cunningham placed first in the 60 meter hurdles to give the ACC three total NCAA crowns.

The Virginia Tech women tied for sixth place in the overall team scoring with 29 points, while NC State placed ninth with 25. Notre Dame’s 11 points placed 17th, and Duke tied for 18th with 10.

Florida State led all ACC teams in men’s scoring with 17 points, tying for 13th place.
