BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rutgers track and field earned three qualifying bids to the 2022 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon as A’nan Bridgett (long jump), Chloe Timberg (pole vault) and Jameson Woodell (400-meter hurdles) each at advanced out of the NCAA East Preliminary this past weekend at Indiana University.
It marks the most events at the NCAA Championships for the Scarlet Knights since 2018 when Rutgers qualified for four events in Eugene. That year, RU sent five competitors in four events, including men’s hammer, men’s 400-meter, men’s 400-meter hurdles and the men’s 4×400-meter relay.
The reigning Big Ten Champion in both the indoor and outdoor long jump, Bridgett finished fifth in the first round of the event at the NCAA East Preliminary on Wednesday. He recorded a jump of 7.78m (25′ 6.25″) to qualify for his second-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships after earning All-America honors in 2021. Bridgett also qualified for the national meet for indoor in March.
Making her debut at the NCAA East Preliminary, Timberg continued a standout freshman season, earning at trip to Eugene in the pole vault. On Thursday, the Big Ten Champion matched the qualifying height of 4.31m (14′ 1.75″) to advance to nationals.
Woodell gave Rutgers its third NCAA Championship qualifier on Friday as he moved out of the quarterfinal round after setting a school record pace on Wednesday. Woodell eclipsed his previous school record time, which he set at the Big Ten Championships, with the third-fastest time in the first round, running 49.82. In the quarterfinals, he again ran the third-fastest time in the group, clocking 50.34 to earn a trip to Eugene.
Competition at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field begin on Wednesday, June 8 through Saturday, June 11. Bridgett and Woodell will compete in the long jump and 400-meter hurdles semifinals, respectively on Wednesday, while Timberg will appear in the pole vault on Thursday.
