Joycey Earns Second-Team All-America Honors



Two Tar Heels earned All-America honors Wednesday as the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships opened in Eugene, Ore.
 
Senior James Joycey placed 15th in the men’s hammer with a throw of 67.43m (221-2), good for second-team All-America honors.
 
Graduate student Jesse Hunt placed 18th in the men’s 1,500m semifinals with a time of 3:42.28. He missed out on one of the 12 spots in the finals but earned honorable mention All-America honors by reaching the semifinal round at the NCAA Championships.
 
Four members of the Tar Heel women’s team compete on Thursday afternoon and early evening, with Jill Shippee in the hammer throw at 3 p.m., Sasha Neglia in the 3000-meter steeplechase semifinals at 6:02, Madison Wiltrout in javelin at 6:45, Anna Keefer in the long jump at 7. (All times PT)
