COLUMBUS, Ohio – Current Buckeye Adelaide Aquilla, 2021 graduate Sade Olatoye and 2022 graduate Eric Harrison are set to compete at the 2022 World Championships, hosted at Hayward Field.
Aquilla will compete in the qualifying rounds of the shot put on Friday, July 15 at 8:05 p.m. ET for a chance to qualify the finals on Saturday, July 16 at 9:25 p.m. ET. Olatoye will compete in qualifying rounds of the hammer throw on Friday, July 15 at 3:05 and 4:30 p.m. ET with a chance to qualify for the finals on Sunday, July 17 at 2:35 p.m. ET. Harrison will compete in the 200m heats on Monday, July 18 at 8:05 p.m. ET with a chance to qualify for the semifinals on Tuesday, July 19 at 9:50 p.m. ET. The men’s 200m finals will take play on Thursday, July 21 at 10:50 p.m. ET.
Aquilla finished second in the shot put at the USA Championships a couple weeks ago with a best throw of 19.45m to trail only the world leader. Aquilla had two throws go further than 19 meters as 19.45m was the second-best throw of her career. Her personal-best 19.64m throw puts her seventh in the field among all athletes’ season-best throws.
Olatoye (’21) will represent Nigeria at the world championships after winning the hammer throw competition at the 2022 African Championships with a best throw of 63.67m. Her season-best 65.74m puts her in the field of 32 athletes from 21 countries.
Harrison (’22) will represent Trinidad & Tobago at the world championships in the 200m after a successful senior season as a Buckeye. Harrison earned USTFCCCA All-American Second Team honors in both the 100m and 200m at the outdoor championships, qualifying for the 200m finals and finishing ninth (20.71).
- Aquilla was named Great Lakes Regional Women’s Field Athlete of the Year and Big Ten Athlete of the Year.
- Aquilla defended her NCAA outdoor shot put title by breaking the collegiate record and her own program record with a best throw of 19.64m. She had the top-four throws in the competition and beat the runner-up by more than one meter to earn her place on the first team as a USTFCCCA All-American.
- Aquilla was named one of 10 semifinalists nationally for The Bowerman.
