Joseph Fahnbulleh Finishes 4th in the 200 Meters at 2022 World Championships

He crossed the line in 19.84, just a hundredth of a second off his personal best.

EUGENE, Ore. – In one of the most anticipated 200-meter races of all-time at the World Championships, Florida and Liberian sprinter Joseph Fahnbulleh clocked a 19.84, finishing 4th in the World in 2022.

Just .04 seconds off a podium finish, Fahnbulleh improved on his fifth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics in the 200 meters.

Coming off the turn, Fahnbulleh closed down the back-half of the field but couldn’t track down the trio of Americans in the top-three spots.

After missing a majority of the indoor season, Fahnbulleh responded with outstanding success in the outdoor season.

He was the NCAA Champion over 100 meters and 200 meters, helping the Gators to the NCAA Men’s Outdoor Championship.

Fahnbulleh has firmly cemented himself as one of the world’s best runners at 200 meters and will have a chance to showcase it at the global level the next three years.

With World Championships in 2023 (Budapest) and 2025 (Tokyo), as well as the Olympic Games in 2024 in Paris, Fahnbulleh will be on the hunt for Liberia’s first-ever medal at a World Championship meet.

On the field, Gator Greats Christian Taylor and Will Claye opened up their account at this year’s World Championship with the qualifying stage of the Triple Jump.

Claye advanced to Saturday’s final with a third-round mark of 16.70m. He is the sixth Gator to make the finals of their respective event on the men’s side.

Tomorrow’s action includes heats of the men’s 4×100 relay as well as Champion Allison’s race in the finals of the men’s 400 meters.
