BIRMINGHAM, England – A total of eight past and present Alabama track and field standouts earned a place at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, being held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, England this week.
After seeing 14 Crimson Tide athletes compete at the recent 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Ore., Alabama’s Commonwealth contingent includes Alex Amankwa (Ghana), Remona Burchell (Jamaica), Oliva Fotopoulou (Cyprus), Flippa Fotopoulou (Cyprus), Natassha McDonald (Canada), Tarsis Orgot (Uganda), Mauricia Prieto (Trinidad and Tobago) and Jereem Richards (Trinidad and Tobago).
The Commonwealth Games is a quadrennial international multi-sport event among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations.
The Tide rolls into action on Wednesday with Alex Amankwa (Ghana) competing in the heats of the 800 meters.
