Hankenson Added to Demon Deacons Track & Field, Cross Country Coaching Staff

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest track and field coach John Hayes announced the addition of Holly Hankenson to the program as an assistant coach for combined events, jumps and sprints.

“I am incredibly excited to bring in Holly to work with our student-athletes,” director of track & field and cross country John Hayes said. “Holly has made a strong positive impact on all of the people she’s been around as both an athlete and a coach. I have no doubt that she will do the same here.”

“I would first like to thank Coach Hayes for this amazing opportunity,” Hankenson said. “I am excited to return as a coach to the ACC, representing a truly impressive program. I especially look forward to working with an incredibly talented group of young athletes! Go Deacs!”

Hankenson joins the Wake Forest staff from Ball State, where she has served as a graduate assistant coach to the track & field and cross country teams since August 2021. During her time there, she helped coach an athlete that finished fifth overall in the high jump event at the 2022 outdoor NCAA Championships, while also helping multiple other young men and women to countless personal bests and many school records.

Hankenson was a standout track and field athlete at the University of Louisville, where she was an ACC Champion in the indoor pentathlon. She was also a three-time All-American and school record holder in four different events.

She earned her Bachelor of Science & Business Administration from Louisville in the spring of 2019.
