Cross Country Unveils 2022 Season Schedule

SALT LAKE CITY – After a success 2021 season, the Utah cross country team unveiled its 2022 schedule on Monday that features its annual home meet, the Utah Open, and a pair of top meets that’ll serve as a primer for the Utes ahead of the postseason.

The Women of Utah open the 2022 cross country season at the UVU Invitational for the third time in four seasons on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Lakeside Park. Utah then heads to the Land of 1,000 Lakes for the 36th Annual Troy Griak Invitational (Sept. 23), making it the first time the Utes have raced on the Les Bolstad Course since 2000.

Utah returns to the Nuttycombe Invitational (Oct. 14) for the first time since 2019 to kick off three-straight weeks of competition in the month of October. It then returns home for the annual Utah Open on Thursday, Oct. 20, at Sunnyside Park to close out the regular season. The Trojans of USC play host to the Pac-12 Championships on Friday, Oct. 28. Location is currently TBD for the championships race.

The UNM North Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M., serves as the host site of the 2022 NCAA Mountain Regionals (Nov. 11) for the first time since 2015. New Mexico was scheduled to host the regional in 2020, but was cancelled due to the season being moved to the spring of 2021 because of COVID-19.

Oklahoma State, who hosted the NCAA Cross Country Championships in the spring of 2021, will once again welcome in the nation’s top teams and individuals on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the OSU Cross Country Course.

As a team, the Utes return a handful of veteran runners in Keelah Barger, Morgan Jensen, Ariel Keklak, Simone Plourde and Emily Venters under the direction of head coach Kyle Kepler – who is in his 18th season at the helm.

The 2021 squad had its best finish ever at the Pac-12 Championships, finishing second as a team while Venters took runner-up honors. Utah also qualified for the NCAA Championships as a team for the fourth time as a program – all of which have been under the watch of Kepler. The Women of Utah finished in 20th at the championships, which tied for the program’s second-best finish.
