Alabama Cross Country Duo Earns SEC Rookie Honors


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Crimson Tide duo of Macy Schelp and Will Pinson gave Alabama cross country an opening-week sweep of the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week honors.

Schelp won the individual title in the women’s race at the Lion Opener, pacing the Tide to a team win, while Pinson took second in the men’s race, pushing the UA men to a team victory.

It was the first cross country race for both Schelp and Pinson in an Alabama uniform.

  • Won the individual 4,000-meter race at the Lion Opener with a time of 14:07.36
  • Finished three seconds ahead of the field in her first cross country race for the Crimson Tide
  • Paced UA to 18 points and the win

  • The Huntsville, Ala., native led the Crimson Tide to the win at the Lion Opener
  • Took second in the 5-kilometer race, with a time of 15:10.09
  • Paced the Tide to 21 points and the win
