MADISON, Wis. – The No. 11 Wisconsin women’s cross country team opened its season with a strong performance on Thursday. The Badger Open was an opportunity for the eager team to start the season and prepare for upcoming meets, including the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational presented by Under Armour the Badgers will be hosting later this fall.
It was a great team performance for the Badgers, and they were led by Sophomore Emma Watcke, with a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds on the 5000 meter-course. Junior Heidi Heuerman was right behind Watcke as she finished at 16 minutes, 44.1 seconds. Two freshmen, Mya Bunke and Leane Willemse, also had a strong outing for the Badgers, finishing with a time of 16 minutes, 44.3 seconds.
Up Next:
The Badgers will travel to Minneapolis on Friday, Sept. 23 for the Roy Griak Invitational. The women’s race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Les Bolstad Golf Course.
