NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt cross country heads to Bloomington, Indiana, for the Coaching Tree Invitational on Friday.
The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT with the women’s six-kilometer race, followed by the men’s eight-kilometer race at 9:45 a.m. The Commodores will compete against Columbia, Elon, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), North Carolina, Northern Arizona, Ohio, South Dakota and Villanova.
The Commodores look to continue their success coming off of the 2022 season opener at Belmont, where the women’s team finished first overall and the men’s team placed second.
Led by first-place finisher and veteran senior Niki Narayani, each of the six runners representing the Vanderbilt women completed the opener in under 20 minutes. Michael Schumacher made his collegiate debut at the Belmont Opener, finishing eighth overall to pace a group of five Commodores among the top 12 individually.
Heading into the Indiana weekend, both teams are ranked in the top 11 in the South Region, according to the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s respective polls—the women’s team at No. 6 and the men’s team at No. 11.
