SEATTLE — It won’t feel much like fall in Stillwater, Oklahoma this weekend, but cross country will be back in full force nonetheless. Washington opens its 2022 season bright and very early this Saturday, Sept. 24, with the Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State. The course is the same one that will be hosting the NCAA Championships at the end of the season, so the 6th-ranked UW women and 8th-ranked UW men will be wanting a return trip in November, and will use Saturday to get the lay of the land.

Due to forecasted high temperatures in the upper 90s on Saturday, the start times were moved up into the early morning hours locally. The women’s 6k will start at 7:45 a.m. Central time and the men’s 8k goes at 8:30 a.m. Central. For those fans following from the West Coast, that means a 5:45 a.m. wake-up call to track the live results. No live video will be available for the races.

The Jamboree will feature strong fields including the likes of BYU, Colorado, Northern Arizona, Stanford, Syracuse, Tulsa, Gonzaga, Princeton, Michigan, Arkansas, and the host Oklahoma State to name just a few. The meet is one of just two on the docket for the Dawgs prior to the conference championships.

The 6th-ranked UW women expect to race a group consisting mostly of women who have not competed on the Stillwater course before. That includes several true freshmen that could make their collegiate debuts on Saturday, including Ella Borsheim, Chloe Foerster, and Sophia Nordenholz. Also expected to run are Anna Gibson, Andrea Markezich, Sophie O’Sullivan, and Kirstie Rae. Markezich is the only one of the group who has run the course.

The 8th-ranked men have a group of eight making the trip, including Sam Affolder, Sam Ellis, Isaac Green, Nathan Green, Luke Houser, Evan Jenkins, Ed Trippas, and Joe Waskom. Ellis and Trippas are All-American transfers from Princeton who would make their UW debuts, while Jenkins is the one true freshman set to compete. Nathan Green also had an All-America track season but redshirted last fall so this would be his cross debut.
