“This is going to be an outstanding weekend for racing,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Our students are always excited to race in the Live in Lou Cross Country Classic.”

Louisville will compete in the first two races of the day starting with the men’s 8000m Gold Race at 9:30 a.m., with the women’s 5000m Gold Race following at 10:15 a.m.

The men will compete against 34 other teams, including Tennessee and Georgia from the SEC as well as an ACC foe in Clemson. On the women’s side, 44 other teams will compete in the Gold Race, led by No. 23 Kentucky and Furman.

“A strong field of entries will lead to outstanding performances, and we look forward to seeing everyone at Tom Sawyer Park Saturday morning,” added Cowper.

Louisville will field 10 women in the meet, while 12 of the men on the roster will lace up. Four Cardinals are slated to make their season debuts, with three of those four running their first race as collegians.

Saturday’s meet will be available for live streaming through FloTrack with a subscription to the site.

The Live in Lou Classic will mark the first of two events held at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park this fall, with the park also being named as the site for the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships for the second straight season. The regional will be contested on Nov. 11.

The Cardinals return to action two weeks after last competing at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Sept. 17. Madeline Castleberry paced the women’s squad to an eighth-place finish, finishing 20th overall in a time of 18:12.5.

The men placed fifth as a team, led by a runner-up finish from Ian Kibiwot in 24:26.4 and a 14th place finish from Isaac Kiprop in 24:53.1. Freshman Jack Moore garnered ACC Freshman of the Week honors on Sept. 20 for his performance in Terre Haute, earning 33rd in 25:24.5.
