Wolfe Named ACC Cross Country Performer Of The Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina sophomore Parker Wolfe led the way as the Atlantic Coast Conference named its cross country student-athletes of the week on Monday for their outstanding performances over the past weekend.

Men’s Performer of the Week

Parker Wolfe, North Carolina; Denver, Colo.

Wolfe set a new course record of 23:02.4 in winning the 8K Men’s College Gold race at the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Friday. Leading teammate Patrick Anderson in a 1-2 Tar Heel finish to top the 46-team field that included three Top-30 squads, Wolfe won his second career race and first since Sept. 17, 2021, and he led Carolina to its second consecutive win in the Paul Short Run (having also won the event in 2021).

Women’s Performer of the Week

Katelyn Tuohy, NC State; Stony Point. N.Y.

Tuohy shattered the Burke Golf Course record in leading the Wolfpack to the team championship of the Joe Piane Invitational at Notre Dame, finishing with a course-record 5K time of 15:50.0. She became the first woman in history to run the 5K course in under 16 minutes. Tuohy paced the field through the 4k split at 12:49.9 with Mercy Chelangat of Alabama (12:50.9) and Kaylee Mitchell of Oregon State (12:51.9) right behind her. But Tuohy pulled away from there, gapping Chelangat, the eventual runner-up, by 12.1 seconds over the final 1k to shatter the course record. Tuohy was also named the USTFCCCA National Runner of the Week on Tuesday.

Men’s Freshman of the Week

Izaiah Steury, Notre Dame; Pleasant Lake, Ind.

Steury helped the Irish claim first place at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational as he ran for an 8K time of 23:38.8. Steury was the third Notre Dame runner to cross the finish as the Irish totaled 81 points. He was first true freshman finisher in the race with his 14th-place overall finish.

Women’s Freshman of the Week

Dalia Frias, Duke; Hermosa Beach, Calif.

With her 6K finish of 20:18.3, Frias posted the top time among all ACC true freshman at the Paul Short Run. She was also the second-highest finishing Blue Devil on the women’s side for the second straight meet.
