PEORIA, Ill. – Sophomore Ian Kibiwot raced to an individual third-place finish as the University of Louisville’s men’s and women’s cross country teams completed their final race of the regular season on Friday afternoon at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill.
Kibiwot again paced the men, fighting to a time of 23:32.0 to lead the Cardinals to an 11th-place team finish. He has placed in the top six in each of Louisville’s four meets this season, earning top-three finishes in three of those competitions.
Isaac Kiprop ran strong to a 35th-place finish, notching a time of 24:09.4. Ethan Meyer ran under 25 minutes for the second consecutive meet, crossing the line in 24:59.4, while Spenser Wolf finished in 25:10.7. Freshman Nolan Satterfield leapt into the scoring five for the first time this season to round out the scorers, closing to a time of 25:24.8.
“It was great to see Ian once again challenging at the front of the men’s race,” added Cowper. “We’ll look to see our pack tighten up from the 2-5 position in the coming weeks as we prepare for the ACC Championships in Charlottesville.”
The women’s squad jumped up to the 6K distance for the first time this season, placing 22nd as a team. Madeline Castleberry led the Cardinals through the line once again, finishing 46th out of over 300 competitors. Castleberry’s time of 21:26.4 marked a personal record in the 6K, nearly a minute faster than her previous best.
Sydney Partyka placed 96th, covering the course in 21:58.6. Sophomores Megan John and Lexie Paszkiewicz stuck together throughout the race, finishing in 22:44.0 and 22:45.1, respectively. Ellie Maurer was the final scorer for the women, running her 6K debut in 23:25.7.
“We were very pleased with the way the women’s squad was able to transition to a longer race today,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Maddy once again led the way, but the entire squad handled the adjustment well.”
The Cardinals will now turn their attention to the ACC Championships, which are scheduled to take place in Charlottesville, Va. on Oct. 28.
