Women’s Cross Country Runners-Up to Lead Rebels at Panorama Farms Invitational


CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Ole Miss women’s cross country put together a strong team effort to finish second overall, while a top-five individual finish by senior Anthony Camerieri paced the Rebel men to highlight for Ole Miss at Virginia’s Panorama Farms XC23 Invitational on Saturday morning.
 
The Rebel women scored 110 points with a scoring spread of 47 seconds to finish second in the 5K race, beating out No. 27 Kentucky by six after an impressive team showing in their first full-strength race of the season. The Ole Miss men took seventh overall in the 8K, notching three top-30 finishes – including a fifth-place finish on a career day by Camerieri.
 
Senior Ryann Helmers was the top finisher for the Rebel women for the third straight meet this year, finishing eighth overall at a 5K time of 16:53.5. Helmers, a Second-Team All-SEC member last season, has notched an average finishing place of 11.3 through her three meets of competitions this year.
 
Junior Loral Winn was the Rebel runner-up yet again, finishing 17th at 17:15.3 to give the Rebel a strong one-two punch in the team standings. EKU transfer Laura Taborda opened her Rebel career in strong fashion, finishing 22nd at 17:22.6, while Skylar Boogerd also opened her 2022 campaign on Saturday as well, running 17:29.1 to take 27th place overall. Jocelyn Long rounded out the Ole Miss scoring in 36th place at 17:39.6.
 
Other Rebel women in competition Saturday included Hannah Ielfield (49th, 17:49.1), Sophie Baumann (54th, 17:51.5), Kristel van den Berg (61st, 17:55.5), Madison Hulsey (99th, 18:34.8), Frances Luna (102nd, 18:35.6), and Sarah Schiffmann (108th, 18:42.0).
 
For the Rebel men, senior transfer  Anthony Camerieri impressed yet again, cracking the top-five after a career-best 8K time of 23:19.5. Camerieri has been the top Rebel finisher in each of his three races at Ole Miss, winning the SEC Preview on Sept. 16 before a 61st-place finish at the high-octane Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 24.
 
Senior Chris Maxon also had a career day, running an 8K PR of 23:46.3 to finish 29th overall for the Rebels. All-American Cole Bullock finished 29th at 23:54.8, and rounding out the scoring were Shane Bracken in 63rd at 24:24.8 and Dereck Elkins in 74th at 24:34.6.
