MADISON, Wis. – Following an impressive performance in his second race of the season at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational presented by Under Armour, Wisconsin men’s cross country junior Bob Liking has been named the Big Ten Conference Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
A junior from St. Charles, Illinois, Liking was the first Badger across the line at the Nuttycombe meet last week in 23:14, leading the Badgers to a seventh-place finish as a team. Liking’s showing was the best by a Big Ten Conference athlete at the meet that featured 19 of the top 30 teams in the country and also led UW to the best finish by a league program at the meet.
Last year Liking also earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors after finishing fifth at the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational.
It marks the second time this year that a Badger has earned weekly league honors as Adam Spencer was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week after winning the Loyola Lakefront Invitational.
The Badgers wrap up their regular season this weekend with the Illinois Open on Friday at 3 p.m. before hitting the road next weekend for the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championships. The meet will be held at the U-M Golf Course on Oct. 28 with the men’s 8,000 meter race starting at 10:45 a.m.
