MADISON, Wis. – This weekend the No. 9 Wisconsin men’s cross country team heads to Champaign, Illinois for the Illinois Open on Friday, Oct. 21. The men’s 8K race will begin at 3:40pm.
Here are the five things to know before UW’s final meet of the regular season.
1. IN THE RANKS: The Badgers are still in the top ten of the USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll at No.9 and currently sit at at No.2 in the Great Lakes Region behind No.1 Notre Dame. The Badgers are currently the top-ranked team in the Big Ten Conference.
2. A LOOK BACK AT THE NUTTY: Last Friday was the Wisconsin Nuttycombe Invitational as the Badgers finished seventh overall as a team in the meet that featured eight of the top-10 teams in the country and 19 ranked teams. Junior Bob Liking was UW’s top finisher for the second-straight season, finishing in fourth place at the meet. For his efforts, he was named the Big Ten Athlete of the Week for the second time in his career.
3. BADGERS IN THE RACE: Racing this week is senior Derick Peters, who won the Badger Open in at the beginning of the season. Sophomore Leo Richardson is also running for UW after running an 8K personal best of 25:18.1 at last weeks Nuttycombe Invitational. In addition, sophomore Jake Bourget, David Vannucchi, and Tony Adriansen will race in UW’s final race of the regular season.

5. UP NEXT: The Badgers head to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championship next Friday. The men’s 8K will take place at 10:45 a.m. CT and will be streamed live on B1G+.
