BOULDER — The University of Colorado track and field program will kick off the 2022-23 indoor season this weekend with meets at the Air Force Academy Friday and Boston College on Saturday.
The combined events athletes and throwers will head to Colorado Springs Friday while CU will send three distance athletes to the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University this Saturday.
The combined event athletes will focus on the 60 meter events, running both in the sprints and the hurdles. The team will also compete in the long jump and high jump while the throwers will compete in the shot put and weight throw.
The men will have four men compete in the 60 meter dash and the long jump. Nick Bianco is competing alongside transfer Troy Colleran in the 60 and 60 hurdles as well as the long jump, while Noah Bouchard will compete in the high jump and hurdles. Sophomore Aidan Christiansen has the best entered mark from the Buffs in both the 60 and the long jump and will be competing in each.
The throws are led by Tyler Sconce in the weight with Lars Atkinson throwing both along with Isaiah Bouchard
For the women, returning All-American Avery McMullen will lead six women in the hurdles and 60-meter dash. She will also be joined by Allie Routledge and freshman Riley Burkey in the high jump while Jada Green will lead Kara Lucyk and freshman Eva Bruce in the long jump.
In the throws, the Whyrick sisters will compete with Obi Osafo-Mensah and Gya’ni Sami in the shot put while Bella Braun and Jane Powers will join Sami and Osafo-Mensah in the weight throw.
On Saturday, three Buffs will return to the track on the distance side. India Johnson competes for the first time in her final year of eligibility, running the 5,000 alongside cross country All-American Ella Baran. Charlie Sweeney will also seek a fast time in the 5,000 for the men.
