Baran Posts Top Five Time In CU History


BOSTON — The University of Colorado track and field graduate student Ella Baran joined the history books here Saturday evening with a top-five time in CU history in the women’s 5,000.
 
Baran finished ninth in a stacked women’s 5,000-meter run at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University, running 15:33.72 seconds. The mark puts her fourth in CU history while becoming the 10th woman in CU history to run under the 16-minute mark indoors.
 
India Johnson, who is now ninth in CU history in the event, ran 15:52.90 for 29th. Her mark was just a couple of seconds off her personal best of 15:50.10.
 
Also for Colorado, Charlie Sweeney ran the men’s race in 13:45.68 to finish 49th.
 
The Buffs close out the calendar year next weekend competing at UC-Colorado Springs in the jumps, throws and combined events.

Women’s 5,000: 1. Annie Rodenfels (BAA) 15:08.22; 9. Ella Baran (COLO) 15:33.72; 29. India Johnson (COLO) 15:52.90
