Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei will attempt to overthrow his fellow countryman, Jacob Kiplimo’s, a very tough San Silvestre Vallecana 10km course record on the streets of Madrid Saturday, December 31.

The World record holder in the 5000m and 10000m and Olympic 5000m gold medalist from Tokyo 2020 will attempt to lower Kiplimo’s 26:39 event record from 2018, which, at the time, was the World record.

The men’s 10km World record stands at 26:24, set by Kenya’s Rhonex Kipruto in 2020. If the odds are in Cheptegei’s favor, the World record could also fall. Cheptegei will be challenged by the Spanish middle-distance runner Mohammed Katir who returns to defend his San Silvestre Vallecana title from last year. The elite list also includes a handful of World class Kenyan and Ethiopian runners.

The final list of the men’s elite runners will be posted on this once available.
