Track & Field Ready To Host First Meet In Renovated Indoor Facility

For the first time in three years, the University of North Carolina track and field teams will host a home meet when they host the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge on Saturday January 14 at the Eddie Smith Field House on the UNC campus.

Field events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. with track events to follow at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The last time UNC hosted a home meet was prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, over three years ago at the Dick Taylor Carolina Challenge on January 11, 2020. In the meantime, the Eddie Smith Field House was upgraded from top to bottom, including new lighting, renovated coaches’ offices and team space and more.

Saturday’s meet also will launch the indoor season for most of the Tar Heel squad. The team’s distance runners started the 2022-23 campaign strongly with a record-setting day on December 3 at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.

The field of competitors on Saturday is scheduled to include student-athletes from Carolina, Duke, NC Central, UNCW, East Carolina, Wake Forest, High Point and Old Dominion, among others.
