Track Terps Take Part in Reading Rocks Initiative

COLLEGE PARK, MD — The Maryland Track and Field squad participated in a community outreach program yesterday, highlighting the importance of reading and education in our local community.

Throughout the season, the Terps have been taking part in a number of community initiatives to help give back to the surrounding areas of College Park, and create great learning experiences for student athletes.

The Terps squads were welcomed today by Principal Jennifer Lowndes at the local Rock Creek Elementary School in Montgomery County, MD.

The Maryland student athletes would take part in the Reading Rocks initiative, interacting with and reading to students at the elementary school. It was a rewarding experience for the student athletes as they helped inspire the next generation and created great memories.

Head Coach, Andrew Valmon spoke of the event saying, “This is an event we have done annually since I started coaching at Maryland. It is an opportunity for our athletes to see a bigger purpose giving back to the next generation. These are impressions they are making on young people that will last a lifetime.”

The Terps look forward to continuing to work with the community and promote positive values including education and continued success.
