Cougars open McCluskey Invite with three wins


MOSCOW, Idaho — Washington State men’s and women’s indoor track team competed in the Lauren McCluskey Invitational on Friday. The Cougars claimed three first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. WSU stood atop the podium for the pentathlon, weight throw and long jump.
 
Women’s Recap
Former GNAC pentathlon champion Renick Meyer kicked off the Lauren McCluskey Memorial meet on Friday with her first Cougar win. Meyer notched two first place finishes in the 60m hurdles and long jump. While Sarah Kovich claimed two personal bests in the 60m hurdles and shot put.
 
Cougars came to play in the long jump as they swept first and second in the event. Freshman Gilana Wollman came out of the gates hot with a personal best jump of 5.92m to notch her first Cougar win. Senior Anna Rodgers landed right behind Wollman for season best mark of 5.89m.
 
Sophomore Alex Payne collected her second win as a Cougar with a season best throw of 17.37m. Senior Audrey Hughes claimed fifth with a throw of 15.47m.
 
Men’s Recap
Senior Daylon Hicks continued his fantastic start to his senior season taking second for the second time in three meets with a season best mark of 2.03m.  Lee Walburn made his Cougar debut notching three top three finishes in 60, shot put and high jump. Walburn scored 2692 points and will wrap up the rest of the events tomorrow.
 
Lucas Tailin wrapped up the day for Cougars with a jump of 4.75m to claim third place.
