IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams completed day one of competition at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday, Jan. 20. Three Illini set new/improved top-10 school marks today.
Senior Tyler Sudduth improved his program third best weight throw mark to 21.38m (70-1 3/4) enroute to winning the event. In the same event redshirt senior Brian Keyes placed fifth and improved his school’s seventh best mark to 19.15m (62-10). Senior Jack Roberts won the 3000m race and set the school’s new seventh best time at 8:07.29.
Senior Alex Babbington 2.08m (6-9 3/4) and sophomore CJ Shoaf 2.05m (6-8 3/4) claimed the top two spots in the high jump. Freshman Ashley Oliver won the 600m race on a new personal-best time (1:33.56).
Sophomore Daniel Mboyo won the long-jump, 7.25m (23-9 1/2). Graduate student Bret Dannis set a new personal-best in the long-jump with a 7.07m (23-2 1/2) jump. On the women’s end, Tacoria placed second with a 5.94m (19-6)
Illini track and field is back in action tomorrow Jan. 21 for day two of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Field events start again at 11 a.m. and running events start at 2:50 p.m. CT. You can watch day two action here and follow along with live stats here.
