ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan State track & field returns to the University of Michigan’s U-M Indoor Track Building to compete in the Simmons-Harvey Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 21.

This weekend’s meet will be the third of the indoor season for the Spartans and the first time the Spartans will have a chance to see some familiar Big Ten opponents.

The Spartans come into the meet having won five individual events and setting numerous personal bests at the Michigan Invitational last weekend. Senior Amani Nuels claimed the top spot in the women’s 60m with a 7.59 and senior Heath Baldwin took first in the men’s 60m hurdles at 8.24. MSU took three of the top five spots in the women’s pole vault with freshman Sophia Mettes taking the win posting a 3.96m.

MSU had a strong showing in distance running with freshman Timothy Cherry winning the men’s 800m in 1:51.96 running unattached, while Julia Bajt ran a personal best in the women’s 800m, clocking in at 2:21.72. The Spartans also had strong performances in throws, with Validian Pallett placing second in both the women’s shot put and weight throw, recording a personal best in shot put with a mark of 14.85m.

Multiple Spartans will make their season debuts on the women’s side this weekend, with Shae Harbaugh running in the 600m, while Abbey Carvey and Katelyn Stewart-Barnett will make their debuts in the 800m run. The Spartans also have multiple entries in the women’s mile and 3000m and will race two relays in the women’s 4x400m relay. MSU will compete in all but one event on the women’s side (triple jump).

The Spartans will compete in eight events on the men’s side with freshman Noel Spence making his debut in long jump alongside Heath Baldwin and Dylan Terryberry. The Spartans have entries in 60m, 400m, 60m hurdles, 4×400 relay, pole vault, long jump, and both throwing events.

Up next, the Spartans will head to Bloomington, Ind. to compete in the Indiana University Relays on Jan. 27-28.
