McMullen Leads Women To Fifth Place Finish

USAFA, Colo. — Colorado track and field pentathlete Avery McMullen completed a three-event finish here Saturday at the Ralph Lindeman Invitational, leading the CU women to a fifth-place in the team scoring.

McMullen, who won the long jump yesterday, finished with a second-place finish in the 60 hurdle finals in 8.39 seconds and finished fourth in the high jump clearing 1.70 meters (5-7). McMullen accounted for 23 of the team’s 64 points.

Joining McMullen in the scoring was Jada Green who finished third in the 60 hurdle finals in 8.42 seconds. The personal best moved Green up to a three-way tie for sixth in CU history in the event.

The women closed out the scoring with Lauren Whyrick finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.32 meters (43-8.5). Meghan Whyrick also scored, finishing eighth with a toss of 12.66 meters (41-6.5).

The men finished sixth with 23 points, led by Nick Bianco who finished sixth in both the 60 hurdle finals and the pole vault. Bianco ran 8.35 seconds in the hurdles and cleared 15-7 in the vault. Teammate Troy Colleran finished eighth in the vault with a clearance of 4.60 meters (15-1).

The CU men were missing a possibility of 46 points today as they had five finalists in the sprinting events that did not compete today.

Nearly all of the Buffaloes will finish the home season next Friday at the Colorado Invitational where the team will honor 14 seniors competing in their last home meet for Colorado.
