Jackson Heidesch from Dowling Catholic IA turned in an impressive US#1 time of 8:42.60 to plant his name among legends on the all-time high school 2-mile list on Saturday at the CYUP Misfits Invitational at Chicago’s Gately Center.

Heidesch’s time ranks No. 4 on the all-time list behind Edward Cheserek, Gerry Lindgren and Lukas Verzbicas. It also was 11 seconds faster than Thomas Pollard’s all-time Iowa best for 2 miles outdoors.

Heidesch, who won the NXR Heartland cross country title last fall, finished fifth at Nike Cross Nationals last month.

Connor Burns of Southern Boone MO, already with a sub-four mile on his resume, finished second in the race in US#2 8:48.53, good for No. 11 all-time.

Noah Breker from Robbinsdale Armstrong MN was third in US#3 8:57.04.

Because it was a club meet, all three were running unattached.

Tatum David of Olney (Richland County) IL had little competition on the way to a big win in the girls 2-mile, running US#1 10:22.70. She also won the mile in US#4 4:50.14.

In the boys 600 meters, Andrew Regnier from Milwaukee Speed Academy (Waunakee WI) ran a US#1 time of 1:17.52. That performance is No. 2 all-time behind Will Sumner’s high school record (1:15.58) set last year.

Nathan Cumberbatch (Shorewood WI) was second in the 600 meters with 1:18.50, which is No. 9 all-time.

Hunter Jones of Benzie Central MI won the mile in US#2 4:07.36 and achieved a new PR for the distance.
