UCLA Breaks Two School Records, Has Eight All-Time Indoor Top 10 Performances at MLK Invite


LOS ANGELES – UCLA Track and Field record books need to be updated after the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Invitational released its official results on Monday. The meet, which occurred on Saturday, Jan. 21, saw new school records for UCLA in the men’s 200m race and the men’s 4x400m relay.
 
In total, the Bruins finished in UCLA’s Indoor All-Time Top 10 in four track events and four field events.
 
Track Events
 
Myles Misener-Daley broke the 200m race record after finishing in 20.68 seconds. The previous record (Rai Benjamin – 20.76) was set on Feb. 11, 2017.
 
Misener-Daley lost a record he previously held in the men’s 4x400m, which he helped set last on Feb. 26, 2022 (3:05.80). The relay team of Antonie Nortje, Sam Herenton, Ismail Turner and Willington Wright turned it on in the last two legs of the race to finish in 3:05.03 on Saturday in Albuquerque to claim the new all-time record in the race.
 
 Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck made her Bruin debut on Saturday, and she came out of the meet sixth all-time in the women’s 60m hurdles (8.17). Kate Jendrezak now ranks fifth among all Bruins in the 400m race after running a 53.82 in Albuquerque.
 
Field Events
 
Two Bruins now sit at sixth all-time in the weight throw: Mayyi Mahama (66’2″) on the women’s side, and Michael Pinckney (69’7″) in the men’s competition. Kris Emig also cracked the top 10 with a 60’11” weight throw, which places him tenth all time.
 
Jaylyn Jackson leaped into seventh place in the long jump with his 24’3″ in the event.
