Fighting Illini Track and Field to Host Illini Challenge


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams are back home to host their second indoor meet on Friday and Saturday Jan. 27-28. The women’s pentathlon is set to start at 11 a.m. on Friday followed by the men’s heptathlon shortly after at 11:15 a.m. Field events start at 3 p.m. and running events at 3:15 p.m. Saturday kicks off with the men’s heptathlon at 10:15 a.m. and both field and running events start at noon.

Illinois recently competed at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational last weekend on Jan. 20-21 where both the men’s (106 pts.) and women’s (92 pts.) took second place. Newcomer Viktor Morozov wins triple-jump in his Illini debut with a 15.58m (51-1 1/2) mark.

A pair of Illini runners improved their top-10 program marks. Senior Jessica McDowell shaved .14 seconds off her programs third best 400m mark to 53.37. Graduate student Bret Dannis improved his fifth best 60m hurdle time to 7.79.

Senior Tyler Sudduth and redshirt senior Brian Keyes both improved their weight throw marks. Sudduth up ticked his programs third best mark to 21.38m (70-1 3/4). Keyes furthered his school’s seventh best mark to 19.15m (62-10).

Sophomore DeVontae Ford sprinted the programs new seventh best 60m hurdle mark at 7.84. Senior Jack Roberts etched his name in the 3000m record books with the new seventh best time of 8:07.29.
