LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Open Multi’s began on Thursday with the completion of the women’s pentathlon by two Wildcats: Skylar Sieben and Hollan Powers.
In the pentathlon, Sieben led the way for the Wildcats, finishing with a score of 3941 points and placing eighth. Powers scored 3814 points, which is a new personal best, to finish 12th. The competition consisted of the 60m hurdles, high jump, shot put, long jump, and 800m. Sieben set a new personal best in her indoor long jump (5.85m), while Powers also set new personal bests in her indoor 60m hurdles (8.73), high jump (1.60m), long jump (5.54m), and 800m (2:21.12).
The men’s heptathlon also began today, and it’s completion tomorrow will start the Texas Tech Open Multi’s off at 10:30 a.m. MST. After its conclusion, the rest of the events will begin at 2:00 p.m. MST. The meet kicks off with an array of field competitions including the women’s weight throw, women’s long jump, men’s long jump, and men’s pole vault.
Additionally, the UW Invitational will also get underway at 4:00 p.m. MST tomorrow. However, the first Wildcat competitor won’t begin until 4:40 p.m. MST with the start of the women’s 5k.
