Allie Jones won the pentathlon and Jan’Taijah Jones won the women’s 400m invitational to highlight the Trojans’ action during the first day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic held at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. today (Feb. 3).    

  • In her first pentathlon as a Trojan, the graduate transfer Jones won with a PR of 4,171 points.  Jones ran 2:21.44 in the 800m race to pick up 804 points and vault into first on the final event.  Jones set PRs in the shot put with a mark of 40-7.75 (12.39m) and in the long jump with a leap of 19-0.75 (5.81m).  She also posted a time of 8.37 in the 60m hurdles and had a season-best high jump of 5-6.50 (1.69m).  Jones’ previous best in the pentathlon was 4,045 set at the 2022 Pac-12 Invitational while competing for Stanford.
  • Jan’Taijah Ford won the women’s 400m invitational with a season-best time of 51.80.  Bailey Lear finished second in the 400m with a time of 52.14, Christine M. Mallard was 7th with a time of 52.67 which matches her PR and school freshman record.
  • Justin Braun had a indoor 400m PR of 46.18 to take third in the men’s 400m invitational.  He moved from 8th to 6th on USC’s all-time indoor list.  Johnnie Blockburger had a time of 46.80 to place 10th.
  • Caisja Chandler had a PR of 22.94 to place fourth in the women’s 200m dash and move from 8th to 7th on USC’s all-time indoor list.  Samirah Moody ran a PR of 23.10 to finish 7th and move into 9th on USC’s all-time list.  Both runners won their heats.  Jassani Carter had a PR of 23.48 to finish second in the women’s unseeded 200m race.
  • Ashton Allen had a PR of 20.76 in the seeded 200m race to place seventh and move into ninth on USC’s all-time indoor list.  Max Thomas has a 200m PR of 20.81 to recapture 10th place on USC’s all-time list and finish eighth on the day.  Jaelen Knox had a PR of 21.31 to take 10th in the men’s unseeded 200m race.

USC will be back in action at 8:30 a.m. (PT) on Saturday, Feb. 4 in the final day of the New Mexico Collegiate Classic..
