Van Klinken, Williams on Mid-Indoor Watch Lists

EUGENE, Ore. – Jorinde Van Klinken and Micah Williams, both NCAA leaders in their respective events, have been named to The Bowerman mid-indoor watch lists as announced earlier this week.

Van Klinken, a two-time semifinalist for the award, owns the nation’s top mark in the shot put with her 18.55m/60-10.5 effort at the Texas Tech Open (Jan. 28). That measure also improved the school record she first set at the season-opening Cougar Classic. There have been four throws over 18 meters in the NCAA this year, and Van Klinken, the reigning NCAA indoor champ, has them all.

The UO women have three inside the national top 20 of the shot put this season with Van Klinken, Jaida Ross (eighth – 17.40m/57-1) and Mine De Klerk (17th – 16.75m/54-11.5).

In his last outing, Williams ran a world-leading 6.49 to win the 60 meters at the Texas Tech Open (Jan. 27). The time marked the fifth sub-6.50 performance of his career, and is just .01 off his lifetime best (6.48) which makes him the No. 6 performer in collegiate history. The Portland, Ore., native also has a pair of 6.54 times this season. Williams was the 2021 NCAA champion in the event.

Named for legendary Oregon head coach Bill Bowerman and first awarded in 2009, The Bowerman is presented annually to the top men’s and women’s performers in collegiate track and field. Five Ducks have won The Bowerman, a list that features past UO greats Galen Rupp (2009), Ashton Eaton (2010), Laura Roesler (2014), Jenna Prandini (2015) and Raevyn Rogers (2017).

In the most recent USTFCCCA rankings (Jan. 30), the Women of Oregon are up to No. 5 in the country and the Men of Oregon check in at No. 22 in their season debut in the poll.

The Ducks’ 2023 indoor campaign continues with a trio of meets next weekend (Feb. 10-11) at the BU Valentine Invitational, Don Kirby Invitational and Husky Classic. The 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships are set for March 10-11 in Albuquerque, N.M.
