Foster’s Mile Performance Leads Way for U-M in Meyo Invitational Finale

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Michigan men’s track and field team completed the final day of the Meyo Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 4) at the Loftus Sports Center with senior Nick Foster leading the way with a win in the mile.

Foster continued to prove his dominance this indoor season with a career-best and winning performance in the high-seeded Meyo Mile contest. His time of 3:56.89 bested his previous personal record by two seconds. The sub-four-minute miler beat his closest opponent by a second. In the same race, Arjun Jha finished fourth and set a career best with his time of 3:58.80, while Oli Raimond took seventh (4:00.61).

The rest of the distance crew saw success as well, with four Michigan runners setting career bests. Freshman Riley Flemington ran a competitive 800-meter race to take sixth (1:50.71), Anthony Hancock (second, 4:05.23) and Luke Venhuizen (24th, 4:12.47) set PRs in the mile and Zach Stewart set a career best in the Ryan Shay 3,000-meter race in a time of 8:13.10 to take third place. He was followed closely by Caleb Jarema taking fourth (8:15.51). This was Jarema’s first meet after competing at the USATF U20 Cross Country Championships. Colton Yesney (8:23.03) and Jack Spamer (8:29.07) finished 11th and 17th, respectively.

The Wolverine’s sprints crew was represented by Lawrence Gilliam and Jacob Koerner in the 400 meters. Gilliam finished fourth in a career-best 48.32 seconds, and Koerner took seventh (48.85).

The Wolverines will be on the road next Friday and Saturday (Feb.10-11), competing at Clemson’s Tiger Paw Invitational and Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
