Jorinde van Klinken arrived at Oregon already as a collegiate record holder as a result of her discus dominance at Arizona State.

It took van Klinken only three meets in her Ducks’ career to add another collegiate all-time mark, this time with personal-best performance Saturday in the women’s indoor shot put.

The Dutch star produced a fifth-round effort of 64-2.50 (19.57m) at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center in New Mexico, eclipsing the 2017 mark of 64-2.25 (19.56m) achieved by Raven Saunders of Ole Miss at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas.

Only the outdoor collegiate record of 64-5.25 (19.64m) established last year by Ohio State’s Adelaide Aquilla at the Division 1 final at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., is a better performance in the NCAA season than van Klinken’s performance.

Last year, van Klinken won the Division 1 indoor title at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala., with a 62-7.25 (19.08m) effort.

She has an opportunity to win NCAA indoor championships for multiple programs, with van Klinken looking to join Saunders, who captured titles in 2015 for Southern Illinois and 2017 at Ole Miss.

The reigning World Championships shot put bronze medalist, van Klinken is the first Oregon female competitor to produce a collegiate indoor record since Kemba Nelson ran 7.05 seconds in the 60-meter dash at the 2021 Division 1 final at Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.

The Dutch athlete established the collegiate discus record during her Arizona State career with a 230-5 (70.22m) performance in 2021 in Tucson, Ariz.

Arizona’s Jordan Geist prevailed in the men’s shot put with a sixth-round performance of 69-8 (21.23m).

Geist remains the collegiate leader this season with his Jan. 20 effort of 70-5.75 (21.48m) at the Lumberjack Team Challenge at Northern Arizona.

Ruth Usoro, a former NCAA champion at Texas Tech representing Nigeria, won the women’s triple jump Saturday by edging Thea LaFond of Dominica by a 46-2.75 (14.09m) to 46-2.50 (14.08m) margin.
