Track and Field Sets Three School Records


BOSTON and FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Rutgers track and field posted three school records on the track in the team’s final regular season meets before the Big Ten Championships. The three records came on the women’s side with Dennisha Page (60-meter), Kassidy Johnson (800-meter) and Alex Carlson (3,000-meter) each etching their names in the record books.
 

For the third-straight weekend, the women’s team added to it school record total, accounting for 12 school records this indoor season. The Scarlet Knights have collected a combined 13 school records.
 
Page improved on her previous school record time which she set earlier this season at the Wagner Invitational (Jan. 6). In the prelims of the 60-meter at the Tyson Invitational she ran 7.26 to qualifying for the finals, knocking off .07 seconds the school record. Page would advance to the finals in the 60-meter, placing fifth overall.
 
Carlson and Johnson have traded school records in the 800-meter and 1,000-meter this season.
 
Johnson previously held the school record in the 1,000-meter which Carlson reclaimed last week at the Scarlet Knights Open (Feb. 3). This time Johnson returned the favor, taking over the fastest Rutgers time in the 800-meter on Friday at the Valentine Invitational, posting 2:05.75 in the event.
 
Carlson bested her record in the 3,000-meter, which she set last year as a freshman. At the Valentine Invitational, Carlson shaved nearly 20 seconds off her previous time, running a time of 8:56.15. She now owns three individual Rutgers record with the fastest times in the 1,000-meter, mile and 3,000-meter.
 

 In addition to the school record performances, the Scarlet Knights turned in several top-five finishes on the weekend at the Tyson Invitational. Chloe Timberg paced the group in the field the events on the women’s side as she finished second in the invitational section of the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.33m (14′ 2.5″). Claudine Smith and Jasmine Van Note recorded a pair of fifth-place finishes with Smith posting a leap of 12.33m (40′ 5.5″) in the triple jump and Van Note earning a distance of 16.28m (53′ 5″) in the shot put.
