Buffs Finish Finalists At USATF Indoor Championships


ALBUQUERQUE — Colorado track and field pentathletes Avery McMullen and Jada Green advanced and finished top-seven at the USATF Indoor Championships here Saturday, highlighting the championships along with several outstanding CU track alum performances.
 
McMullen and Green, fresh off a pentathlon Thursday, entered the nine-woman field in the hurdles. Side-by-side in the prelims, McMullen and Green finished sixth and eighth with times of 8.33 and 8.61, respectfully. They advanced to finals and picked up a place each with McMullen equaling her prelim mark at 8.33 for fifth while Green ran 8.49 for seventh.
 
Current and former Buffs closed out a very successful weekend that saw huge record book marks in the throws at Air Force, two current Buffs finishing top eight at the USATF Championships and several alums placing top two in their events at the Championships.
 
Volunteer coach Val Constien picked up her first USA title, winning the women’s 3,000 at the line in 8:48.29. She set a facility record along the way. Abby Nichols finished fifth in the race in 9:02.57 Friday night.
 
Also in the 3,000s, Eduardo Herrera finished as the runner-up in 8:13.11.
 
Saturday saw another Buff finish second in the women’s 1,500 with Sage Hurta-Klecker running 4:17.26. Nichols came back after the 3,000 to finish sixth in the race in 4:21.96.
 
Dominique Williams also competed Friday night, finishing 10th in the men’s weight throw in 21.06 meters (69.1.25).
 
Colorado finishes the indoor regular season next week at the Ken Shannon Last Chance meet at the University of Washington.

Women’s 3,000: 1. Val Constien 8:48.29 (FACILITY RECORD); 5. Abby Nichols 9:02.57
Men’s 3,000: 2. Eduardo Herrera 8:13.11
Women’s 1,500: 2. Sage Hurta-Klecker 4:17.26; 6. Abby Nichols 4:21.96
 
Men’s Weight Throw: 10. Dominique Williams 21.06m (69-1.25)
