ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Jordan Geist represented Arizona Track and Field at the USATF Indoor Championships on Saturday and finished second overall in the shot put.
Geist’s best throw on the day was 21.36m (70-1) which helped him place second. That’s just 0.12m off the school record that he set earlier in the year. His three non-scratch throws on the day were 21.36m, 20.81m, and 20.61m. This was his second competition in Albuquerque in the last two weeks. He qualified for the championship competition by surpassing the qualifying mark of 19.40m, which he has done numerous times this season.
In the first meet of the year, Geist broke the Arizona indoor shot put school record with a throw of 21.48m (70-5.75). That school record toss at the Lumberjack Team Challenge also put him 10th all-time in NCAA history for the men’s indoor shot put. Additionally, he was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week on January 24 because of his record-setting performance.
Geist is still also the highest ranked shot put thrower in the NCAA as of today. In fact, coming into the day his 12 best throws (now 13) this season were also the 12 best throws in the NCAA. He had also won all three of the shot put competitions he competed in this year up until today. Furthermore, he now has 16 throws of over 20m this season, and another 8 throws greater than 21m.
