Blue Devils Earn All-ACC Honors in Women’s High Jump, Long Jump


LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Duke track and field registered another solid day of competition at the ACC Indoor Championships as day two of the conference meet saw the Blue Devils collect four more All-ACC honors and qualify 10 more athletes to the Saturday finals.
 
Graduate student Isabel Wakefield garnered All-ACC First Team accolades while classmate Chinenye Agina, freshman Gianna Locci and junior Brianna Smith earned nods to the second team. Halle Bieber, Emily Cole, Karly Forker, Julia Jackson, Amina Maatoug, Megan McGinnis, Lauren Tolbert, Chyler Turner, Wakefield and Beck Wittstadt all punched tickets to their respective event finals – several coming via personal best and record-breaking performances.
 
 
TOP PERFORMANCES

  • Locci and Wakefield competed in the women’s long jump where each tallied top-five placements to come away with all-conference recognition.
  • Wakefield collected the bronze medal, flying out to 6.19m (20-3.75 feet) to earn All-ACC First Team honors and a spot on the podium with a third-place finish.
  • In her first ACC Championship appearance, Locci’s earned all-conference second team status via a jump that measured 6.02m (19-9 feet).
  • Agina and Smith earned All-ACC Second Team honors in the women’s high jump, finishing in fifth and a tie for sixth, respectively, behind jumps of 1.74m (5-8.50 feet).
  • After helping the Duke women’s DMR team shatter the ACC, Duke, facility and meet record in the event yesterday, Maatoug and Tolbert continued their stellar weekend in the women’s 800m prelims behind personal-best performances.
  • Maatoug produced the fastest time of the field as she clocked 2:03.45 to break the facility record, improving her No. 2 Duke time in the process. Tolbert’s time of 2:04.44 ranked No. 2 among the preliminary round and moved her two spots up to No. 3 all-time in program lore.
  • Wakefield notched the second facility record of the day for the Blue Devils, sprinting to an 8.18 second finish – the fastest among the field. Turner ran in 8.41 seconds to punch her ticket to Saturday’s final.
  • In the women’s 60m, Bieber advanced to the final after dashing her fastest career time of 7.41 seconds, which lowered her own school record time. Abby Geiser took over sole control of the No. 2 spot on the Duke charts via a run of 7.41 seconds.
