Four Advance to Finals at ACC Championships

Four ‘Cuse men are headed to Saturday’s finals at the ACC Championships during Friday’s preliminaries. They’ll join 11 ‘Cuse competitors that are entered in the men’s and women’s 3000-meter run finals in vying for conference titles on Saturday.

A trio of those qualifiers came in the men’s 60-meter hurdles, where ‘Cuse placed three in the top six. Jaheem Hayles was the second-fastest qualifier in today’s prelims, racing to a time of 7.75 seconds. Anthony Vazquez (8.00 seconds) and David Peters (8.01 seconds) are also advancing. Peters’ time set a new PR. Naseem Smith missed qualifying by 0.01 seconds, taking ninth with a mark of 8.11 seconds.

The other qualifier came in the 60-meter dash, where Trei Thorogood advanced to the finals in the event. He crossed the line in 6.731 seconds, 0.005 seconds into qualifying position.

The Orange already have one ACC Champion in the meet this far (Paul O’Donnell | 5000-meter run) and had two of the top-four finishers in the women’s 5k final to collect points.

Through two days, the ‘Cuse women are in eighth place with 11 points (7-of-17 events completed) and the men have 10 points (6-of-17 events completed), placing them 13th for now. The men’s event is tightly compact though, as 11 of the league’s 15 teams on the men’s side are separated by nine points and only two teams have crossed 20 points thus far in the meet.

Shaleah Colaire (8.60 seconds) and Peyton Rollins (8.71 seconds) fell short of qualifying to Saturday’s final in the women’s hurdles. Rollins’ time was a personal best.

Kaleia Arrington finished with a new personal best time of 7.67 seconds in the 60-meter dash, which earned her 19th.

Kevin Robertson was 15th in the men’s mile, racing to a time of 4:06.60. Syndey Nowicki took 20th in the women’s mile, crossing the line in 4:52.64. Caroline Kirby was four spots behind in 4:57.87.

Xayvion Perkins (49.63 seconds) was 22nd in the 400-meter run.

The meet wraps up at Noon on Saturday, with the finals beginning at Noon on ACCNX.
