Men’s and women’s DMR teams close day one in Seattle with program records


SEATTLE — Washington State’s women’s distance medley relay team set the program record in their season debut, finishing runner-up at 11:15.35 as the Cougars’ indoor track and field teams wrapped up day one of the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invite Friday night in the Dempsey Indoor. The men’s DMR also also closed the evening for the Cougs with a freshman record of their own, finishing fourth at 9:57.08.  

 

Women’s Recap 

The all-time record for the women’s DMR team at 11:15.35 came in their first race of the season in the event for the Cougar team of Neema Kimtai (1200-meter), Jasneet Nijjar (400-meter), Elena Willems (800-meter), and Alaina Stone Boggs (1600-meter). The experienced group combined to break the previous best time of 11:17.92 that was set back in 2009 by Lisa Egami, Lorraine King, Anna Layman and Sara Trane in South Bend. 

 

Sarah Kovich put up two personal best marks in the 800m (2:39.35) and long jump (5.19m) to score 3145 points finishing in 13th. Renick Meyer rounded out the top ten with 3432 points. 

 

Men’s Recap  

The freshman-record-setting group of Kyle Ortega Gammill (1200-meter), Parker Duskin (400-meter), Grayson Wilcott (800-meter), and Aiden Emerson (1600-meter) also competed in the distance medley relay for the first time on the season, placing fourth in the event at 9:57.08. 

 

Lee Walburn posted two season best marks in the 60m dash and long jump. Walburn is currently sitting in fifth place with 2830 points. The heptathlon will resume tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. with the men’s 60 hurdles. 

 

Both Leif Swanson (14:19.20) and Turlan Morlan (14.33.83) both posted personal best times in the 5000m to take 16th place and 20th place respectively

 

NEXT UP:

The second and final day of the UW Ken Shannon Last Chance Meet will kick off with the women’s high jump at 10:00 a.m.
