Quartet of Demon Deacons Awarded as ACC Scholarship Recipients

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference revealed its 2023 Postgraduate Scholarship recipients on Friday (Feb. 24), and Wake Forest saw four of its programs represented on the yearly list.

Nat Friedman (field hockey), Madeline Rehm (women’s cross country, track & field), Adam Cecere (baseball) and Rachel Kuehn (women’s golf) all attained honors from the conference.

The Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford and Jim and Pat Thacker postgraduate scholarships are awarded to selected student-athletes who intend to pursue a graduate degree following completion of their undergraduate requirements. Each recipient will receive $6,000 toward his or her graduate education. Those honored have performed with distinction in both the classroom and their respective sport, while demonstrating exemplary conduct in the community.

The 2023 class of postgraduate scholarship recipients will be highlighted in a one-hour show on ACC Network that will air in May.

“The student-athletes in the ACC are amazing, and we are especially proud to honor this year’s class of ACC Postgraduate Scholarship recipients that represent our 15 world-class institutions,” said ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. “The academic and athletic resumes of these 53 student-athletes are incredible, and we applaud their dedication and commitment to excellence. We look forward to continuing to support these tremendous individuals as they approach the future, which is incredibly bright for each of them.”

“Congratulations to this year’s incredible ACC postgraduate scholarship recipients,” said Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Peter Brubaker. “Each one of these individuals represents the best we have to offer at Wake Forest University and I’m extremely proud of their amazing accomplishments thus far in their academic and competitive careers. All of us look forward to following what will be meaningful and successful futures as they move ahead in their respective careers.”

“We are extremely proud of Nat, Madeline, Adam and Rachel for how they represent our University in competition, but more importantly in the classroom and in the community,” director of athletics John Currie said. “Each year, this program proudly reminds us of the outstanding commitment to academic excellence by young men and women across the Atlantic Coast Conference.”
