LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Clemson track and field program had an extraordinary day on Saturday of the ACC Championship Meet, as both the men’s and women’s teams finished third overall in the conference. The men saw four ACC Champions crowned, including the 4×400 meter relay team of Wanya McCoy, Cameron Rose, Tarees Rhoden and Aman Thornton. The women had three ACC champions of their own.

“This was a great championship’s for both our men’s and women’s teams,” remarked Program Director Mark Elliott. “We had many ACC champions and both teams performed at their best. Congratulations to all of our coaches and support staff on a job well done.”

Wanya McCoy was named the ACC men’s track MVP for his efforts. He was the champion of the 400 meter run, the fifth place finisher in the 200 meter dash, and a key member of the ACC Champion 4×400 meter relay team. His 400 meter time of 45.91 seconds is second-fastest in school history. Tarees Rhoden defended his ACC crown in the 800 meter run with a convincing victory. His time of 1:46.61 is a school record. Giano Roberts came out on top of the 60 meter hurdles field, winning that title for the first time in his career.

Kiara Grant, the ACC’s 60 meter dash record holder, earned the championship in the event with a time of 7.19. She also finished fifth in the 200 meter dash. Ockera Myrie won the 200 meter dash with a personal best time of 23.08, which is the third-fastest time in school history. She also finished fifth in the 60 meter dash. Oneka Wilson won the 60 meter hurdles with a personal best of 8.12 seconds. The women’s 4×400 meter relay team of Courtney Williams, KK Gadson, Ockera Myrie and Lashanna Graham finished second.

Antoinette Van der Merwe ran a personal best 8.23 in the 60 meter hurdles to finish second, while Jevon Williams’s 7.84 was good for third place. This gave the Tigers two athletes on the podium in each the men’s and women’s 60 meter hurdles.

KK Gadson finished seventh in the 400 meters with a personal best of 54.19, while Brynne Sumner came in 8th in the 800 meters.

Several Tigers will be headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico in two weeks for indoor nationals. The athletes who qualify will be announced in the coming days.
