Samirah Moody set the USC women’s 60m dash record and the facility record, Yemi John the Trojan freshman women’s 400m record and both relays broke the Dempsey Indoor record in winning at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational today (Feb. 25).  USC athletes ran nine times which bettered previous Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational records.
- The sophomore Moody won the women’s 60m dash final with a USC, Dempsey Indoor and meet-record time of 7.07. Moody’s PR broke the previous school record of 7.09 held jointly by Angela Williams (2001) and TeeTee Terry (2021). Moody now ranks second on the NCAA descending order list among athletes entering this weekend. Graduate transfer Caisja Chandler took fourth in the final with a time of 7.37. Moody had a time of 7.24 in the prelims and Chandler a time of 7.39.
- Junior Jan’Taijah Jones led a Trojan avalanche in the women’s 400m, winning with a time of 51.66, as USC athletes placed 1st-4th and 6th in the event. Freshman Yemi John in her first meet as a Trojan, finished second with a PR and USC freshman-record time of 52.05. Graduate student Bailey Lear took third with a time of 52.14, freshman Christine M. Mallard fourth with a time of 52.57 and junior Kimberly Harris sixth with a time of 52.68 in the 400m. All six Trojans bettered the previous meet record in the event.
- Freshman Justin Braun won the men’s 400m with a time of 46.48 and five of the top nine finishers in the event were Trojans. Junior Ashton Allen took third with a time of 46.81, graduate transfer Michael Phillippy was fifth with a time of 46.89, freshman William Jones was sixth with a time of 46.97 and junior Johnnie Blockburger was ninth with a time of 47.47.Â
- The Trojans closed out the meet with a pair of impressive wins in the 4x400m relays. First the women’s team of Lear, junior Jasmine Jones, John and Jan’Taijah Jones won with a Dempsey Indoor and meet-record time of 3:29.78. It bested the record of 3:29.92 held by the 2020 USC team of Kyra Constantine, Kaelin Roberts, Anna Cockrell and Lear. USC’s time today moved this quartet into eighth place on USC’s all-time list.
- The men’s 4x400m team of Braun, Allen, Jones and Blockburger won with a Dempsey Indoor and meet-record time of 3:05.01.
