SEATTLE – UCLA Track and Field saw 10 all-time indoor top 10 finishes at its final meet of the indoor season, including a new indoor school record at the Ken Shannon Last Chance Invitational hosted by the University of Washington.
Peter Herold placed fourth in the meet with his 13:37.22 in the men’s 5000m race, which is a near-five second PR for the junior. Herold previously held the No. 2 spot on the indoor all-time top 10 list but leapfrogs Robert Brandt (13:40.82; Feb. 8, 2019) for the new indoor school record. Herold also placed sixth in the one-mile race, finishing in 4:02.44.
Bruin Top Performers at Ken Shannon
Ismail Turner captured second place in the 400m, running a 46.66 in the race. Liam Anderson qualified out of the prelims in the 60m hurdles, placing fifth in the finals with a 7.99. Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck competed in the finals of the 60m hurdles on the women’s side, and she finished in third place at Ken Shannon with her 8.10. Aly Conyers also had a top-10 finish, finishing eighth in the 400m race (54.03). Both men’s and women’s 4x400m relays placed second in the meet.
Herold led the way for distance runners, but a number of Bruins had top-10 finishes in the weekend meet. Ronan McMahon-Staggs placed fourth in the 800m race (1:48.31) and teammate Kai Wingo placed seventh after crossing in 1:52.12. Mia Barnett finished seventh in the women’s one-mile race, running a 4:34.92. Michael Mireles set a new personal best in the men’s 3000m race, finishing in 7:54.82.
Michael Pinckney continues his strong freshman season, placing third in the weight throw (69-06.00) and fifth in the shot put (56-10.25). Aidan Elbettar finished close behind the freshman in the shot put, throwing 56-04.50 for seventh place in the event.
The throwers on the women’s side showed out in the weight throw; both Mayyi Mahama (69-02.00, 2nd place) and Lyvante Su’emai (61-06.25, 5th) set new personal bests with the Bruins in the event.
Jelaani Davis managed a 49-11.25 in the triple jump, placing third in the meet. Aaron Kim placed sixth in the men’s high jump, clearing 6-07.00 in the event.
